Spring is an exciting time at British Dance Academy as our students prepare for their dance exams in Dubai. Dance exams are a fantastic opportunity to showcase your hard work, skills and passion for dance. With the right mindset and preparation, you can approach your dance exam with confidence and enjoy every moment.

To help you feel fully prepared, we’ve put together some practical guidelines. Let’s make this journey a joyful and successful one!

The Fun of Practice

Daily Dance Time

Set aside a little time each day to practice at home. Think of it as a fun challenge; you’ll see improvement with each practice!

Class Attendance Reminder

Don't miss your classes in the weeks leading up to your exam! Students should be attending classes twice per week for at least 3 months before the exam to ensure they are fully prepared. Consistency is key to success!

Mock Exam Requirement

All students must attend the mock exam before their actual dance exam. This provides an excellent opportunity to experience the exam setting, receive feedback and fine-tune their performance.

Private Classes for Last-Minute Preparation

If you're looking for extra support and one-on-one personalised teaching, we offer private dance classes to help you refine your technique and ensure you're fully prepared for your exam. These private dance classes provide the opportunity to work closely with a teacher on specific areas where you may need additional practice or guidance. Whether it’s polishing your routine, improving your performance or boosting your confidence, a private dance class can be a valuable resource in your exam preparation. For more information or to schedule a private dance class, please speak to our Student Support team.

Ask for Help

If you have questions or need help, don’t be afraid to ask your teacher. They’re there to support and guide you every step of the way.

Exam Preparation Tips

Hair

Hair should be styled according to the requirements of the subject but all hair must be pinned back off the face, including fringes. Hair should be pinned up above the shoulders for all subjects to ensure it stays secure during the exam.

Uniforms

The relevant uniform for each subject must be worn and should be in good condition. Please ensure that the uniform is clean, not torn and free of holes in tights. Shoes should also be in good condition. Please take care in ensuring that your uniform is neat and presentable for the exam.

Reasonable Adjustments

If you are an examination candidate in need of additional support during an examination, please complete a Reasonable Adjustment form. British Ballet Organisation recognises the diverse nature of disabilities and emphasises that the Reasonable Adjustment form is a tool to assist candidates in accessing qualifications without compromising the assessment of skills, knowledge, understanding or performance. The form must be submitted to British Dance Academy at least 5 weeks before the examination date. If you require a Reasonable Adjustment Form, please ask our Student Support team.

Exam Day Guidelines

Arrival Time and Preparation

Please arrive at least 40 minutes early to account for potential traffic delays, hair restyling, warm-up, and exam preparation with our teachers.

Mobile Phones and Quiet Conduct

Before entering the Academy, please ensure your mobile phone is switched off or set to silent. We kindly ask all students and parents to keep noise levels to a minimum throughout the Academy, including when entering the Academy. This helps create a calm and focussed environment for everyone as they prepare for their exams.

Parent/Guardian Attendance Guidelines

We request a maximum of one parent, guardian or family member per student due to space limitations and to control noise. The parent, guardian or family member can wait in the waiting room in the Academy during the exam but must remain quiet to avoid distractions.

Refreshment Policy

Only water is permitted; please refrain from bringing food or other drinks.

Exam Day Policies

  • Examiners should not be presented with gifts or additional fees at any examination session.

  • Only the Candidates, the Music Operator and the Examiner should be present in the exam room during an examination.

  • No parents, guardians, carers, relatives, Teaching Assistants or candidates pertaining to a different set should be in the examination room.

  • Candidates are not permitted to communicate with each other in any way during an examination. Talking, etc., could result in their examination being terminated.

  • Only registered candidates may enter the examination.

  • Late arrivals will not be allowed in the examination session.

  • Parents/guardians and families waiting for examination students to complete the exam must remain quiet at all times inside the Academy.

  • Reasonable Adjustment requests are approved at the discretion of British Ballet Organisation.
