British Dance Academy is committed to the welfare and protection of all children and young people who attend our classes. We will take all reasonable steps to ensure that their health, safety and well-being are safeguarded at all times.  We acknowledge that we have a duty of care to safeguard children and young people from harm, abuse and neglect. We recognise that everyone who works with children and young people has a responsibility to protect them and promote their welfare.

 

This policy outlines our commitment to child protection and safeguarding and sets out the measures we have in place to ensure that all children and young people who attend our classes are protected.

  • Ensuring that the welfare of children and young people is our top priority at all times.

  • Providing a safe and secure environment for children and young people to learn and develop.

  • Ensuring that all children and young people are treated with respect, dignity and fairness.

  • Providing training and support for all staff, volunteers, and parents/guardians to understand and implement our safeguarding policies and procedures.

  • Taking all allegations and concerns seriously and responding to them promptly, fairly and sensitively.

  • Working in partnership with parents/guardians, relevant agencies and authorities to promote the welfare and safety of children and young people.

  • Ensuring that our policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated in line with best practice and legislation.

All staff and volunteers at British Dance Academy have a responsibility to safeguard children and young people from harm by:  â€‹

  • Ensuring that all staff and volunteers are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection.

  • Keeping up to date with changes to legislation, guidance and best practice in relation to safeguarding and child protection.

  • Ensuring that appropriate policies and procedures are in place and regularly reviewed.

  • Providing advice and support to staff and volunteers in relation to safeguarding concerns.

  • Liaising with external agencies where necessary and ensuring that referrals are made to children’s social care when appropriate.

All staff and volunteers are required to:

  • Be familiar with the Child Protection and Safeguarding policy.  

  • Attend regular safeguarding training and ensure that their knowledge and understanding of safeguarding and child protection is up to date.

  • Report any concerns about the welfare or safety of a child or young person to the line manager or CEO.  

  • Record any concerns in writing and share them with the line manager or CEO.

Whistleblowing

At British Dance Academy, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity in all of our activities. We believe that our employees, students, and stakeholders have a right and responsibility to report any concerns or suspected misconduct they may observe or experience.  This Whistleblowing Policy outlines the process for reporting concerns or suspected misconduct and provides protection for whistleblowers against retaliation.

 

Reporting Process

Any employee, student, or stakeholder who has a concern or suspicion of misconduct should report it immediately to their line manager or CEO.  Reports may be made verbally or in writing and should include as much detail as possible about the suspected misconduct, including the names of individuals involved, dates, and any supporting evidence.

Protection for Whistleblowers

We will not tolerate retaliation against any employee, student, or stakeholder who reports suspected misconduct in good faith. Retaliation includes but is not limited to demotion, termination, harassment or discrimination. We will protect the identity of whistleblowers to the fullest extent possible, consistent with our legal obligations and the need to conduct a thorough investigation.

Investigation Process

Upon receipt of a report of suspected misconduct, we will promptly initiate an investigation. The investigation will be conducted in a fair and impartial manner, and we will keep the whistleblower informed of the status of the investigation to the extent possible.  Upon completion of the investigation, we will take appropriate corrective action, which may include disciplinary action, termination, or referral to law enforcement authorities.

Waiver and Release of Liability

Parental Consent (for participants under 18 years old)

I am the parent/legal guardian of my child, children or ward(s), a minor under the age of 18 years. I hereby give my consent for my child, children or ward(s) to participate in dance classes, dance camps and all related activities organised and conducted by British Dance Academy I understand and acknowledge the risks associated with dance classes, dance camps and all related activities and on behalf of myself and my child, children or ward(s) assume all such risks.

 

Release of Liability for Parents/Guardians

In consideration of my child, children or ward(s) being allowed to participate in dance classes, dance camps and all related activities, I, on behalf of myself, my child, children or ward(s), our heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns, hereby release and discharge British Dance Academy, its teachers, employees, contractors, agents, and volunteers from any and all claims, demands, causes of action, losses, damages, or liabilities, arising directly or indirectly from my child, children or ward(s) participation in dance classes, dance camps and all related activities including but not limited to claims for personal injury, property damage, wrongful death, or any other loss.

​

Indemnification for Parents/Guardians

I agree to indemnify and hold harmless British Dance Academy, its teachers, employees, contractors, agents, and volunteers from any and all liabilities, costs, expenses, claims, or judgments arising out of my child, children or ward(s) actions or conduct during dance classes, dance camps or related activities.

​

Media Release for Parents/Guardians

I grant British Dance Academy the right to use photographs, video recordings, or any other media of my child, children or ward(s) taken during dance classes for promotional and marketing purposes, without compensation or further consent.

 

Severability

If any provision of this Waiver and Release of Liability is deemed invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
